Medically reviewed by: Dr. med. Timo Spanholtz

Dr. Spanholtz is a specialist with many years of specialization in gender-affirming and body-contouring surgery. He leads the interdisciplinary team at the Praxisklinik am Rosengarten and accompanies patients from the initial consultation through to aftercare.

You have a clear picture of how your body should feel. We help you take this path – with surgical experience, genuine understanding of your situation, and a team that sees you as a person, not just as a patient. At our locations in Cologne, Bergisch Gladbach, and Hamburg, we offer the entire spectrum of gender-affirming and body-contouring procedures.

For us, transgender surgery is not routine.

Every procedure is as individual as the person we perform it for. We take the time to truly understand your wishes, your history, and your expectations – before we decide together which path is the right one.

Frequently asked questions about transgender surgery

We are happy to answer your questions about the treatment here.

Do I need an expert report in order to have surgery?
That depends on which procedure you are planning and whether you want to bill through statutory health insurance (GKV). For GKV services, a psychiatric or psychotherapeutic expert report is usually required. We are happy to advise you individually on this.
Does the health insurance cover the costs?
Many procedures are eligible for reimbursement by statutory health insurance for insured persons with a corresponding diagnosis. We have years of experience with the application process and support you with it – from the application to the approval.
How long does healing take after a mastectomy?
Most patients are able to work again after 2–3 weeks. Sports and physical exertion are usually possible after 6–8 weeks. We discuss everything important in detail during aftercare.
Can I also have surgery if I have not yet undergone hormone therapy?
That is possible and depends on the respective procedure. We look at your situation together in the initial consultation and find the right path for you.
I am non-binary – are you the right clinic for me?
Yes. We treat people of all gender identities. For us, non-binary surgery is not a special case, but a completely natural part of our work.
